چکیده
Background: Laparoscopic adrenalectomy is the standard procedure for the removal of adrenal masses. Transperitoneal laparoscopic resection of adrenal tumor is the preferred surgical technique. In the present case report authors described a case with a 20 cm right pheochromocytoma successfully treated by using transperitoneal laparoscopic approach. Methods: A 26-year old man had a 20 cm retroperitoneal mass that was revealed by a contrast enhanced computed tomography and his preoperative blood epinephrine level was 421.41 pg/ml(normal range, <100 pg/ml). The patient was suspected to have a pheochromocytoma and received preoperative treatment with α-receptor blocker terazosin. A 20 cm retroperitoneal mass was successfully removed by transperitoneal laparoscopic approach. Results: The operative time was 180 min and blood loss was 100 ml. No intraoperative or postoperative complications developed in the patient. Pheochromocytoma of right adrenal gland was confirmed by

The benefits of laparoscopic adrenalectomy for single adrenal lesion have been well documented in literature; less experience though has been reported with simultaneous bilateral laparoscopic adrenalectomy. This operation is indicated in case of primary hypercortisolism caused by bilateral adrenocortical hyperfunction, Cushing's disease after failure of pituitary surgery, ectopic adrenocorticot...

AIM Aim of this study was to report the authors' experience with the anterior transperitoneal approach, and with an anterior submesocolic approach in case of left sided lesions. MATERIAL AND METHODS From January 1994 to January 2011, 122 males and 170 females with a mean age of 50.7 years (range: 19-84) underwent laparoscopic adrenalectomy (LA) at 2 centers in Ancona and Rome (Italy) (that fo...
متن کاملRetroperitoneoscopic adrenalectomy in pheochromocytoma
Since the first laparoscopic adrenalectomy, the technique has evolved and it has become the standard of care for many adrenal diseases, including pheochromocytoma. Two laparoscopic accesses to the adrenal have been developed: transperitoneal and retroperitoneal. Retroperitoneoscopic adrenalectomy may be recommended for the treatment of pheochromocytoma with the same peri-operative outcomes of t...
متن کاملLaparoscopic adrenalectomy for pheochromocytoma-does size matter? A single surgeon comparative study
BACKGROUND Surgical difficulty in laparoscopic adrenalectomy for pheochromocytoma increases with tumor size. We compared single surgeon outcomes of laparoscopic adrenalectomy for pheochromocytomas in patients with tumors smaller or greater than 4 cm to assess safety of the procedure. METHODS A retrospective review was performed of laparoscopic adrenalectomies for pheochromocytoma by a single ...
متن کاملAdrenal giant cystic pheochromocytoma treated by posterior retroperitoneoscopic adrenalectomy
INTRODUCTION Giant cystic pheochromocytoma (>10cm) is rare with only a few cases described in the literature. Preoperative diagnosis is very difficult because clinical, biochemical and radiologic finds are usually not consistent with a pheochromocytoma. Open surgery is traditionally the gold standard. CASE PRESENTATION A 51 year-old male patient resorted to surgery department with an adrenal ...
